irresolutely- She is the younger half-sister of Nie Mingjue by about five or six years and the daughter of a concubine. Due to her gender, she was viewed as a disappointment due to her gender given that she was intended to be a spare heir. Since the goal of securing an additional heir was not met, her parents continued to try for another son without success.
- Wasn't really considered a feasible clan heir due to her gender. Additional pressure and expectation was placed on Mingjue. The siblings still wound up with a close bond and got along well, if not better than they do in canon. Huaisang became her brother's right hand, emotional support, etc.
- Educated the same as her brother up until she was about nine. At the age of ten, her education shifted to studying the Three Obediences and Four Virtues and she began to spend more and more time indoors as her clan was very patriarchal. She picked up an interest in the arts as a way of passing the time and amusing herself indoors. There weren't that many women in the Nie Clan so she often spent her time in the company of men, especially her brother, or with maids.
- Siblings became extremely close after their parents died. Huaisang was very well-known for her loyalty and steadfast love and support for her brother. Despite their age difference and her gender, she took it upon herself to help her brother any way that she could. With no other Nie children but themselves, she dedicated herself to being her brother's heir in addition to marrying well to secure an alliance.
- Excels in politics, diplomacy, and strategy. Mediocre fighter with the saber at best and relies on bodyguards. Fairly competent with a fan or at hand-to-hand, mostly in terms of self-defense. She leads and organizes night hunts for her brother under his supervision, leaving much of the traditional home oversight to the servants. Also won't hesitate to sic her brother or the Nie cultivators on anyone who crosses her.
- Accompanies her brother frequently to gatherings, both to assist and lend support and to also hunt for potential marriage prospects. Somewhat fickle with suitors, she gets easily bored with them if they're not interesting enough and moves on.
- Personality wise, she's a little more naive but more focused on her duty and a little more willing to apply herself to cultivation than her male counterpart is. This is mostly due to her maturing faster than he does in canon and the gender roles and expectations being different for her.
- Her chastity is intact though she's a little thirsty for connections. She copes with this by still collecting erotic art and romance novels, same as her male counterpart.
- She still studied at the Cloud Recesses but never met Wei Wuxian or Jiang Cheng there since she was strictly segregated away from the boys. She meets them and Jin Zixuan properly at the Wen's indoctrination camp when she is sent to be a hostage.
- She uses that time to gather information on the Wens, learn about the grounds, maybe plots an escape with Wei Wuxian? Gets punished by being chosen as bait for the Tortoise of Slaughter.
- She's bolder and less timid than her male counterpart, more confident. She's viewed favorably in general, if a bit rough and ill-mannered at times. She's known to be skilled with words and a brush, always well-dressed and fashionable. Her brother's known to chastise her for being too outspoken at times.
